Boundary Tracing for Department Objects
"The Department Object in Snaptrude is best used for high-level space planning. With this update, departments are clearly defined containers that wrap your spaces, making the distinction between gross and net areas both visible and intuitive."
– Aman Jain, Product Specialist

This release introduces Boundary Tracing for Department Objects, giving departments a clear geometric identity in Snaptrude. Departments now behave as true planning containers that wrap associated spaces with the right offsets, while staying distinct in both visualization and reporting.

What’s new

  • Clear object type in OPP: Every object is now explicitly labeled as either Department or Space, updating correctly upon conversion.
  • Auto-creation of departments: When generating programs via AI, CSV import, or Interpret, department objects are automatically created and wrap their spaces with a 2’ offset.
  • Efficiency factor default set to 1.4: Aligns with architectural standards, ensuring gross vs. net area differences are expected and visible.
  • Flexible geometry creation:
    • Only Departments: Creates square departments sized by Net Area × 1.4.
    • Only Spaces: Generates spaces with 0’ gaps.
    • Departments + Spaces: Departments snugly wrap spaces with border-hugging logic.

Use cases

  • Quickly visualize gross vs. net area without manual setup.
  • Get auto-wrapped department boundaries from AI-generated or imported program data.
  • Maintain cleaner geometry when planning both at department and space levels.

Known limitations

  • No auto-grouping of departments and spaces yet.
  • Object-level area targets not yet shown in canvas view (planned in future releases).
