Parametric copy
“Parametric Copy lets you test layouts, resize units, and adjust counts without redrawing. This speeds up every part of modular planning from initial sketches to fine-tuning spatial layout options.”
- Spoorthi Narayan, Product Specialist*

What's New

For architects working on apartments, hotels, parking layouts or any repetitive spatial design, Parametric Copy brings the precision of modular design with the freedom to iterate on the fly.

Problem

Designing repeated units like apartment bays or hotel rooms involves constant tweaking of size, count, and spacing. Changing the width of one unit means repositioning all others manually. It’s slow, error-prone, and breaks the flow of design.

Solution

Snaptrude’s new Parametric Copy tool eliminates that hassle by giving you dynamic control over modular layouts.

  • Smart resizing with adjacency lock: When you resize a unit, all adjacent copies shift automatically to stay flush. No overlaps. No gaps.
  • Edit count & spacing anytime: Modify the number of units and their spacing later from the group panel. Useful when client requirements change.
  • Click-to-copy like SketchUp: Copy once, click multiple times to place repeated units without restarting the tool.

How It Works

Create

  1. Select a space
  2. Use Parametric Copy to set the number of copies and spacing
  3. Click once to place, keep clicking to repeat

Resize

  • Drag the edge of one unit
  • All adjacent units shift automatically to maintain clean alignment

Edit

  • Select the group
  • Update count or spacing from the properties panel anytime

Undo

  • Ctrl+Z reverts the last copy action

Limitations

  • Not available for images, CAD, PDFs, or terrain.
  • Multi-select copy not supported.
  • Groups break if you:
    • Add or delete objects inside the group
    • Split, flip, or rotate objects
    • Use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V between stories or projects
  • Known issues:
    • Creating 1 copy creates 2 overlapping objects
    • Undo after copy leaves extra object
    • Fractional inch input not supported
